A pensioner wedded to an Egyptian man 45 years her junior fears time is running out for the couple – as he struggles to secure a visa.

Iris Jones, 81, married Mohamed Ahmed Ibriham, 36, in Cairo in November 2020.

She later returned home to Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, leaving her beloved in Egypt – where he remains to this day.

Former cleaner Iris had hoped that Mohamed would have been able to have acquired a spousal visa by now.

But she has blasted bureaucracy for standing in the way of their love – and now fears she might not have long left.

Iris told Metro.co.uk that it is “bloody awful” being apart from Mohamed, who works as an engineer.

She said: “I haven’t got age on my side. I could drop dead tomorrow. Every day is precious.

“I’m separated from someone I love, it’s so hard.”

The couple had hoped to reunite in Britain before moving to a major city like Bristol or Birmingham, so Mohamed could find work.

But reams of red tape in Egypt have meant he remains thousands of miles away.

The unlikely pair met on Facebook before tying the knot in a low-key ceremony – which they celebrated with a KFC.

Mohamed has previously said he is not using Iris, and their love is genuine.

The couple speak every day on a social media messaging service.

But, unless Mohamed travels to see Iris, it is unlikely they will be meeting anytime soon – as she said she does not like Egypt.

She has been three times so far but cannot afford to go back, she said.

And she added: “I can’t go back to Egypt, that country does not suit me.

“It’s too hot, it’s too dusty, I don’t like the food and the fumes from the traffic is absolutely horrendous.”

Iris, who divorced her previous husband more than 40 years ago and has two adult sons, is now forced to play a waiting game.

The pair have regularly made headlines during their relationship – including an infamous incident on This Morning.

The loved-up gran shared very graphic details about her sex life and left the show’s hosts howling with laughter.

She said: “It was pretty rough. We used a whole tube of KY Jelly.”

Iris often posts on Facebook about Mohamed, and has previously touched on her troubles with the distance between them.
